Mackinder Steps Down at Rustons

By Lincs League

Jordan Mackinder has stepped down as manager of Ruston Sports.

Ruston Sports played their final game of the 2018/19 season on Saturday as they lost 1-0 at home to Brigg Town CIC.

This game was Mackinder's final one as manager as he steps aside for the 2019/20 season after two full years in charge. Most notably, in his first season at the helm, his side claimed their first Lincolnshire Football League title since 1990. With games still to be played his team could finish anywhere from fourth down to ninth this campaign.

Ruston's have already announced Jay Martin as his replacement for next season on their clubs Twitter account.

@ruston_sports "First team manager, Jordan Mackinder hands over the reigns to Jay Martin who will take charge of the first team. Hopefully he can establish himself in the league and progress the club again. Jordan steps down after two seasons and will now play a part in the future for Jay on the pitch."

A statement from Jay Martin elaborated. "Jordan contacted me and enquired if i would be interested in the managers role at Rustons, which at the time really interested me. After a couple of meetings, it was a no brainer to agree to take over with Rob Smart as my assistant. Rustons being an established club in the league for many a year and league champions last season. The name Rustons is synonymous with Lincoln in history so the decision to come on board was an easy one to make for us. We will be merging youth with experience already at the club and will look to engineer a good footballing side who can compete whilst also giving a chance for youth to take the next step. I can't wait for the new challenge."
