League Round Up: 11th, 14th, 16th April

By Lincs League

THERE were goals galore in the latest round of Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincolnshire matches.

Wyberton scored a dozen, while Horncastle Town followed up their midweek success at Skegness by hitting nine past Immingham Town at The Wong.

Skegness Town bounced back from the defeat against Horncastle to complete a league double over Sleaford Sports Amateurs.

Ruston Sports hit the Sleaford side for six in midweek, but missed out on a chance to clinch the title when their trip to Grimsby Borough Amateurs was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

Brigg Town Development Squad 3 Wyberton 12

Three of the Wyberton players scored hat-tricks against a depleted Brigg Town Development Squad at The Hawthorns.

Lee Beeson, Curtis Revell and Shane Brackenbury all hit trebles in the highest scoring match of the season.

Nathan Wright, Josh Wood and Scott Dawson were also on target for the villagers.

In response Brigg netted through Amadou Jarra, Louis Borrill and David Kotwica.

Horncastle Town 9 Immingham Town 1

Benjamin Fidling took his season’s tally to ten with a hat-trick in a Challenge Cup Final dress rehearsal at The Wong.

Jack Wood also grabbed a brace of goals as the Wongers put an under strength Immingham Town to the sword.

There were also goals for Nathan Rawdon, Luke Blondel, Jasper Caudwell and Michael Harness.

Pilgrims stalwart Gary Nimmo scored the visitors’ consolation goal.

Skegness Town 2 Sleaford Sports Amateurs 0

Birthday boy Alex Nichols celebrated with a goal as Skegness Town completed a league double over Sleaford Sports Amateurs at The Vertigo Stadium.

Will Britton was also on target after a goalless first half.

The win consolidated Town’s third place in the table and kept alive their faint hopes of retaining the league title.

These had been dashed three days earlier when Horncastle Town beat them by the odd goal in five.

Former Lilywhite Liam Papworth did the damage with a brace of goals, following Scott Lowman’s deflected first half strike.

Jamie Coulson had equalised just before the break, but Horncastle stepped up a gear in the second half. Having raced to a 3-1 lead they conceded a late Jordan Smith penalty.

Ruston Sports 6 Sleaford Sports Amateurs 2

Ruston Sports need to win their final game of the season at Grimsby Borough Academy if they are to lift the championship crown.

This follows their 6-2 success at Eslaforde Park, where Callum Dye notched four times for the visitors.

Alex Mackinder and Lewis Smith were also on the scoresheet for the Lincoln-based team.

Luke Hollingsworth and Jack Wright scored the Sleaford goals.

Louth Town 0 Horncastle Town 0

The Wongers made the short trip on Monday evening to The Marshlands where an ever improving Louth side were out to end any hopes their East Lindsey rivals had of winning the league.

A rather dull opening hour had gone by and the game was still goalless, but as the sun went down over the Marshlands the game came alive and both sides began to play with more urgency in search of a winner.

That crucial goal wasn't found, and the White Wolves will probably leave the game the more satisfied, with another point to their tally. As for Horncastle, their attentions now turn to their two upcoming cup finals.
