League Round Up: 17th February

By Lincs League

HORNCASTLE Town are back on top of the Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincolnshire League after another day of high drama.

Richard Jackson and Andrew Bullivant provided the goals to beat Sleaford Sports Amateurs and lift them back to the summit.

Meanwhile previous leaders Ruston Sports were held to a draw at Immingham Town, who scored a late equaliser to put the brakes on Sports’ surge for the title.

Another championship hopeful, Grimsby Borough Academy, slipped to defeat at a muddy Mulsanne Park, where Nettleham’s victory consolidated their third place in the table.

Current champions Skegness Town bagged three points at bottom club Brigg Town Development, while a solitary Josh Wood goal was enough to secure three points for Wyberton at Louth Town.

Two goals from Jamie Coulson helped Skegness Town maintain their push for the title.

Coulson opened the scoring after ten minutes and a Callum Lawe strike 25 minutes later gave the visitors a two-goal cushion at the interval.

The Zebras responded by reducing the deficit on 55 minutes through Adam McGuire, but Skegness restored the two-goal advantage when Will Britton stabbed home from close range.

Coulson wrapped things up for the seasiders with two minutes left.

Louth Town 0 Wyberton 1

The villagers from the Boston area led 1-0 at the break, thanks to Josh Wood’s goal.

And that was how it finished after Town were unable to conjure up an equaliser in the second half.

Immingham Town 2 Ruston Sports 2

Unbeaten in the league at home, The Pilgrims fell behind to a James Mackinder strike after 20 minutes.

Carl Price equalised with a first half penalty, but Rustons restored their lead with an Alex Mackinder goal late in the half.

The Lincoln side looked to be going home with all three points, but defender Craig Larder popped up with two minutes on the clock to level the scores again.

Nettleham 3 Grimsby Borough Academy 1

Nettleham put the skids under Grimsby Borough Academy’s championship hopes when they grabbed the initiative late in the first half at a slippery Mulsanne Park.

Indeed it was 0-0 after half a hour, but three goals in ten minutes from Jack Higginson, Daniel Howarth and David Coyde put the Nettles firmly in the driver’s seat.

Tom Summers pulled a goal back for the visitors after the break, but it was too little too late to stop the day’s only home win.

Sleaford Sports Amateurs 0 Horncastle Town 2

Horncastle Town took full advantage of Rustons being held at Immingham by bagging three points at Sleaford Sports Amateurs to go back to the top of the table.

Their goalscorers were Richard Jackson and Andrew Bullivant.

The Wongers now top the table on goal difference ahead of Ruston Sports, who have a game in hand.
