League Round Up: 24th February

By Lincs League

HIT by the withdrawal of AFC Boston from the league, Horncastle Town took out their frustration on lowly Brigg Town Development.

The Wongers were docked the six points they bagged against the Boston side following their resignation, while Ruston Sports lost just one, having being held to a draw by AFC Boston.

The end result saw the Lincoln-based Rustons climb to the summit with a five-point advantage.

And while Rustons were left kicking their heels following the postponement of their fixture at Grimsby, Horncastle went nap against Brigg.

Two goals apiece for Luke Blondell and Liam Papworth helped Horncastle close the gap at the top to just two points.

Elsewhere in the league Immingham Town consolidated their fourth place with victory by the odd goal in three over Wyberton, while Skegness Town stepped into the top half of the league with the same scoreline at ten man Louth Town.

Horncastle Town 5 Brigg Town Development Squad 1

Luke Blondell and Liam Papworth both scored a brace of goals as Horncastle hit five past second-to-bottom Brigg Town Development at The Wong.

The win completed a league double over Brigg and lifted Horncastle into second above Nettleham in the latest table.

Michael Harness scored the other Horncastle goal, while Amodoy Jarra notched the Brigg consolation.

Louth Town 1 Skegness Town 2

Only two weeks after going down 5-1 to Skegness in the league, ten man Louth Town suffered a home defeat against the same opposition.

Will Britton gave the seasiders a 1-0 half time lead and early in the second period the visitors’ hopes were boosted when Louth were reduced to ten men after an altercation involving Skegness midfielder Jordan Turner.

Jamie Coulson doubled the seasiders’ advantage with a header, his third goal in two games.

Gareth Flint pulled a goal back for the home side, but Skegness saw out the final few minutes. The three points were enough to lift the Lilywhites into fifth in the table, ten points behind leaders Rustons, with four games in hand.

Immingham Town 2 Wyberton 1

Immingham Town extended their unbeaten home record when they came back from behind to clinch the three points against Wyberton.

The villagers led at the break through Gary Pawson’s goal.

But the Pilgrims responded with goals from Daniel Simpson and Carl Price to send the Boston area side home empty handed.

Immingham are now fourth in the table, just five points behind leaders Ruston Sports.
