By Lincs League

NETTLEHAM moved up to third in the Balcan Lighting Lincolnshire League table with victory at Sleaford.

The Nettles beat Sleaford Sports Amateurs by the odd goal in five at Eslaforde Park.

In the day’s only other league game Immingham Town and CGB Humbertherm both registered their first draws of the season when they shared six goals at Lydford Road.

Skegness Town were left kicking their heels after Brigg Town Development Squad were unable to raise a team.

In the Challenge Cup, holders Horncastle Town overcame league leaders Grimsby Borough Academy to progress to the semi-finals, while Wyberton went through on penalties at Ruston Sports.

Immingham Town 3 CGB Humbertherm 3

Bottom of the league CGB Humbertherm let a three-goal lead slip through their fingers at the Immingham Sports Complex.

The Therm led 3-0 at the break, thanks to goals from Joe Marshall, Mark Fairburn and Jack Wightwick.

But the Pilgrims came storming back in the second half to level through two strikes from substitute Craig Steward and another from Craig Larder.

Sleaford Sports Amateurs 2 Nettleham 3

Nettleham leapfrogged their opponents in the table thanks to victory at Eslaforde Park.

The Nettles took the lead midway through the first half before Chris Funnell levelled for the home side.

Just before the break the visitors regained their one-goal advantage and three minutes into the second half they extended their lead.

Liam Tunstall reduced arrears with a 68th minute strike, but Nettleham held on to take the spoils.

The Nettleham scorers were Matthew Clarke, Callum Foster and Jack Higginson.

Challenge Cup

Horncastle Town 3 Grimsby Borough Academy 1

Holders Horncastle Town earned their place in the semi-finals with a 3-1 win at home to league leaders Grimsby Borough Academy.

The Wongers took the lead after ten minutes before a Jack Boswell penalty made the half time score 1-1.

Two quick-fire goals with 15 minutes left proved enough to take the home side through to the last four.

Horncastle’s goals came from Scott Lowman, a Richard Jackson penalty and Luke Blondel.

Ruston Sports 1 Wyberton 1 (aet)
(Wyberton won 4-2 on penalties)

Curtis Revell took this game into extra time with an 88th minute strike.

Sports had led 1-0 at the interval thanks to a goal from Lewis Smith.

And it looked as though Smith’s goal was going to be enough to take the Sports through until Revell’s late intervention.

Extra time failed to separate the two teams and so attention turned to penalties.

Wyberton scored all their first four spot kicks, and the home side went out after Thomas Scutt and Kyle May failed to convert.
