League Round Up: 2nd Dec

By Lincs League

HORNCASTLE Town went back to the top of the Balkan Lighting Lincolnshire League after securing a point at Immingham Town.

Luke Blondel grabbed a brace of goals for the Wongers, who top the tree by just one point from gameless Grimsby Borough Academy.

Nettleham consolidated their third place with victory by the odd goal in three at Brigg Town Development Squad.

CGB Humbertherm hauled themselves off the bottom of the table with victory at fellow strugglers AFC Boston.

In the Lincolnshire FA Junior Cup Wyberton and Sleaford Sports Amateurs carry the Lincolnshire League flag into the quarter finals after home wins over Crowle Town Colts and Limestone Rangers respectively.

Holders Skegness Town and recent finalists Ruston Sports both bowed out of the competition with defeats at Appleby Frodingham and Moulton Harrox respectively.

Immingham Town 3 Horncastle Town 3

Goals from Pilgrims Liam Vanderweele and Carl Price were holding high-flying Horncastle 2-2 at the break.

Each side scored one further goal during the second half.

David Deane found the back of the net for Immingham.

Jack Wood’s strike and a pair of goals from Blondell levelled things for the visitors.

AFC Boston 2 CGB Humbertherm 4

Robert Raducan scored a brace of goals for the Boston side at their DWB Stadium.

But it wasn’t enough to prevent them falling to defeat at the hands of CGB Humbertherm.

The Therm struck through Jack Barker, Joe Marshall, Gareth Flint and Alex Aldrich to secure the three points and lift them off the bottom.

Brigg Town Development Squad 1 Nettleham 2

Nettleham strengthened their place in the table with victory by the odd goal in three at The Hawthorns.

Matthew Clarke and Jack Higginson scored the all-important goals as the Nettles continued their current good run of results.

Ryan Thompson was on target for the Zebras, who now occupy bottom spot in the table.

Lincolnshire FA Junior Cup

Appleby Frodingham 2 Skegness Town 1

Holders Skegness Town let a half-time lead slip through their fingers at Scunthorpe-based Appleby Frodingham to bow out of the county cup.

Jordan Smith headed the seasiders in front early on, but a catalogue of missed chances left the game perfectly poised going into the second half.

Smith’s excellent 25-yard strike was pushed onto a post by the home keeper, while at the other end, a 20-yard shot skimmed the Skegness cross bar.

After the break the Steelmen fought back to ease their way into the last eight of the competition.

During their second half Skegness striker Jake Gibson suffered a serious leg injury, which was later confirmed to be a broken tibia.

Moulton Harrox 2 Ruston Sports 0

Lincoln-based Ruston Sports bowed out of the county cup with a 2-0 defeat at Peterborough League side Moulton Harrox.

The Lincs League’s team of the month conceded their two goals within the first 12 minutes and failed to recover from their slow start.

Sleaford Sports Amateurs 2 Limestone Rangers 1

Goals from Oliver Sidney and Jason Barrett put Amateurs in command against Scunthorpe League side Limestone Rangers.

The visitors pulled a goal back through Lee Bognar, but Sports hung on to progress to the next round.

Wyberton 5 Crowle Town Colts 0

Last season’s finalists Wyberton eased their way into the quarter-finals with a convincing win over Crowle Town Colts.

Daniel White and Ben Jaques both scored two apiece as the villagers set up a last eight trip to Coningsby.

Curtis Revell was the other scorer.
