League Round Up: 3rd Feb

By Lincs League

RUSTON SPORTS regain top spot of the Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincolnshire League as they hit Brigg for six, while Horncastle are held on The Wong by Wyberton.

Elsewhere, the weather led to postponements between AFC Boston and Immingham, and Nettleham vs Skegness.

Brigg Town Development 0-6 Ruston Sports

Hat-trick's from Callum Dye and the league's leading scorer, Alex Mackinder ensured their side came away with all three points from their trip to The Hawthorns.

Suprisingly, it took the Lincoln side twenty seven minutes to open the scoring when Dye got his first. Mackinder doubled the lead ten minutes later, before Dye got his second to give Sports full control at the half way point.

Dye completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot in the fifty third minute, and Mackinder got his second of the game just five minutes later.

But it wasn't all positive for the visitors who were reduced to ten men when Swinburn was shown red on the hour mark.

With fifthteen minutes remaining, Alex Mackinder scored his eighteenth league goal of the season to complete a hat-trick of his own as well as rounding off a fine away performance for the boys in blue.

The win moves Rustons two points clear at the top of the league, whilst Brigg will need to regroup before meeting Skegness Town on 17th February.

Horncastle Town 0-0 Wyberton

There were few clear cut chances in a relatively dull first half, which much reflected the miserable conditions on The Wong.

The second proved more entertaining however. The visitors created the best chance of the game on the hour mark, when a whipped cross from the right, was failed to be converted at the front post.

Minutes later Wyberton had a penalty appeal waved away when they deemed their man to be caught late in the area.

Although Wyberton were creating the clearer of the chances, The Wongers were also looking dangerous on the counter but often their final shot lacked the power to beat the Wyberton 'keeper.

A twenty yard strike from the Boston side which hit the post was the closest the two sides came to getting a winner, and despite late efforts, neither side could be separated in the final ten minutes.

The point saw Horncastle drop to second spot, whilst Wyberton, the league's draw specialists, remain in eighth place.
