League Round Up: 7th April

By Lincs League

SKEGNESS Town kept alive their hopes of retaining the Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincolnshire League title with a tidy win at Nettleham’s Mulsanne Park.

Jordan Smith struck twice as the seasiders brushed aside the challenge of Nettleham, who have now completed their season.

In the other league match Louth Town came back from behind to see off ten man Immingham Town at Marshlands.

Horncastle Town stepped into their second cup final of the season when they beat Wyberton by a solitary goal in the Challenge Cup semi-final at The Causeway.

Nettleham 0 Skegness Town 3

Seven days after holding league leaders Ruston Sports to a draw at Mulsanne Park, Nettleham were unable to stop Skegness Town in their tracks.

The seasiders now need to win their remaining five games to snatch the title from Rustons who have just two games left.

Jordan Turner created Town’s opening goal. He burst into the Nettleham penalty area and was brought down. George Hobbins slotted home the resultant penalty.

Jordan Smith added a second for the Lilywhites midway through the first half.

Town’s third was scored by Smith, whose free kick took a wicked deflection off the defensive wall and wrong-footed Joseph Christopher in the Nettleham goal.

Louth Town 2 Immingham Town 1

Louth Town had to come back from behind to clinch the three points against Immingham Town, who had to play the last hour of the game with ten men.

Gary Nimmo’s first half strike gave the Pilgrims a 1-0 advantage at the break. His goal came midway through the first half, just four minutes before Liam Van der Weele received a red card.

Louth came storming back in the second half and clinched the three points with goals from Joe Marshall and Robin Beecroft.

Challenge Cup semi-final

Wyberton 0 Horncastle Town 1

A Ben Fidling strike earned Horncastle Town a place in their second cup final of the current campaign.

And again the unlucky semi-finalists were Wyberton, who the Wongers knocked out of the Supplementary Cup just two weeks earlier.

Horncastle now meet Immingham Town at the Hawthorns, Brigg, in the final on April 27.
