By Lincs League

Weekend round up for gameweek 17 in the Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincolnshire League.

With Brigg Town in county cup action, GAINSBOROUGH TRINITY RESERVES took the opportunity to extend their lead at the top of Lincs league to six points, but were made to work hard for their win by bottom side Louth Town.

Cleethorpes Town Reserves came from a goal down against an inform Wyberton side to take all three points The Linden Homes Club, a result which sees them move into the top three. The other two league fixtures both ended in draws. The deadlock couldn't be broken in the game between Nettleham and Grimsby Borough Reserves, whilst two goals were shared in the derby match between Ruston Sports and Lincoln United. In the remaining Lincs Junior 3rd round tie, Brigg Town booked their place in the quarters final, with a 6-2 win at Lincoln Moorlands.

Cleethorpes Town Reserves 3-1 Wyberton

Both sides came into the game in good form, but it was the home side who enjoyed victory on this occasion as they came from a goal down to win 3-1. The Boston side scored the opening goal of the game just before the hour mark through Ben Jaques, but their lead didn't last long when Jack Boswell leveled from the spot shortly after. George Farr gave the hosts the lead in the sixty-eighth minute, and with five minutes remaining Connor Southern wrapped up all three points for the owls to put an end to Wyberton's five game winning streak. Cleethorpes' three successive home wins now puts them into third place, just off the pace of the leading two, whilst Wyberton stay sat in sixth.

Gainsborough Trinity Reserves 2-1 Louth Town

Prior to the game, Trinity were presented with their Team of the Month award, but were hoping they wouldn't suffer from the curse which has haunted the previous two winners, and seen them both fall to defeat. The excellent surface at the Northolme, proved a good platform for some fast paced football, but neither side were able to make a breakthrough in the opening half. Although the hosts were edging the possession stakes, both sides posed a threat to their opposition's 'keepers clean sheet. However, the hosts took the lead twenty minutes into the second period through Jack Weatherell, and then doubled their advantage five minutes later thanks to Ward Wisdom-Lockwood. The White Wolves just wouldn't be put to bed, however, and Jack Barker's 89th minute goal set up a nervy finish for the league leaders. They managed to see out the final five minutes to make it five wins on the bounce and increase their lead to six points at the top of the table.

Nettleham 0-0 Grimsby Borough Reserves

Nettleham had scored ten goals in their previous two games, and had scored in all of their home games this season, but Grimsby Borough, who hold the unwanted stat of having the leagues worst defensive record pulled out a fine performance to earn their selves a point against this Nettleham side. The Nettles stay in fifth whilst Borough's second string move above Lincoln Moorlands into eighth.

Ruston Sports 1-1 Lincoln United Development

These two sides were in need of a valuable three points, having both won just once in the previous five league games. However after ninety minutes neither side could be separated and had to settle with a share of the spoils. James Mackinder scored for the home side, whilst Josh Barkle was on target for the Whites. Ruston's remain in seventh, as Lincoln drop a place to fourth.

Lincs Junior Cup:

Lincoln Moorlands Railway 2-6 Brigg Town CIC

Having been postponed the previous weekend for a waterlogged pitch, this fixture was prioritised over league fixtures so the final last eight place could be decided. Moody gave the Zebras a lead after just two minutes, but soon after found themselves 2-1 down thanks to goals for the Moors from Stokes and Smith. Goals from Pearson and Moody (2) in a crucial period after the half time break saw Brigg fire three goals in ten minutes to take a 4-2 lead. That advantage was increased by Charlie Dolling in the seventy second minute and the performance rounded of by Jack Tierney from the penalty spot in the final minute of normal time to join Horncastle Town and Wyberton in the least eight of the competition. An away day at Central Midlands side, Appleby Froddingham awaits.
