League Round Up: 18th Nov

By Lincs League

THERE were goals galore in the Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincolnshire League as Horncastle Town relinquished top spot in the table.

The Wongers slipped to their first league defeat of the season at Wyberton, which paved the way for Grimsby Borough Academy to regain the summit.

Jack Boswell scored a brace of goals for the Academy as they picked up a tidy three points at CGB Humbertherm.

Champions Skegness Town, who were without a game, are now the only side unbeaten in the league.

Ruston Sports climbed to third in the table following an extraordinary match at Sleaford, where there were 12 goals scored.

Arguably the performance of the day was delivered by Immingham Town, who overturned a two-goal deficit to clinch the points against Nettleham.

In the Challenge Cup second round Brigg Town Development Squad eased through against AFC Boston at The Hawthorns.

Sleaford Sports Amateurs 4 Ruston Sports 8

Ruston Sports continued their climb up the table when two of their players hit hat-tricks at Sleaford Sports Amateurs.

Alex Mackinder and Thomas Scutt both scored trebles as the rampant Rustons put Amateurs to the sword at Eslaforde Park.

Scutt got the visitors off the mark after 16 minutes, but midway through the first half Liam Tunstall levelled the scores.

Two goals in three minutes from Mackinder just before the break regained the initiative for Rustons, before a 25-yard screamer from Lee Llewellyn on the stroke of half-time reduced the deficit.

Liam Uzzel netted for Rustons just after the restart and Scutt grabbed his second ten minutes into the second half.

Mackinder completed his hat-trick to make the score 6-2 before Lewis Smith scored Rustons’ seventh.

An own goal from a Rustons player reduced arrears before Sleaford had a player dismissed.

Despite being reduced to ten men, Sleaford pulled a further goal back through Tunstall in the 73rd minute.

Scutt completed his hat-trick to make the final score 8-4.

Wyberton 3 Horncastle Town 2

Wyberton inflicted Horncastle’s first league defeat of the season at The Causeway.

Always a difficult nut to crack on their home ground, Wyberton knocked the Wongers off top spot with victory by the odd goal in five.

Wyberton’s goals came from Curtis Yeatman, Curtis Revell and Adam Abell.

Elliott Andrew and Andrew Bullivant were on target for the visitors.

CGB Humbertherm 2 Grimsby Borough Academy 4

Grimsby Borough Academy climbed back to the top of the pile with victory at Fulstow-based CGB Humbertherm in an action replay of the Supplementary Cup tie the previous weekend.

Both games ended in victories by a margin of two goals for the visitors.

But Borough had to come back from a two-goal deficit with ten men after Joseph Winship received his marching orders during the first half.

The Therm took the lead when Joe Marshall netted in the 18th minute, and their chances of recording their second league win of the season was boosted by Winship’s dismissal.

Marshall added a second goal five minutes into the second period, but Connor Southern halved the deficit with a 55th minute strike.

Jack Boswell levelled the scores just after the hour before scoring from the penalty spot to give Borough the lead.

The scoring was wrapped up two minutes from the end when Harrison Szep added his name to the scoresheet.

Immingham Town 3 Nettleham 2

The Pilgrims avenged an earlier in the month defeat at Mulsanne Park, but they had to come back from behind against ten-man Nettleham.

They were up against it after goals from Nettleham’s Jonathan Wiles and Jack Higginson - one in each half - put the visitors in the driving seat.

But a red card reduced the Nettles to ten men after 72 minutes and the game changed.

A Richard Sparrow goal and two penalties converted by Gary Nimmo saw the home side clinch the three points.

Challenge Cup

Brigg Town Development Squad 3 AFC Boston 0

A Jake Crossland hat-trick secured Brigg’s passage into the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup.

The game was less than 60 seconds old when Crossland fired in his first, a left-footed drive from 25 yards that flew past Jamie Robinson in the Boston goal.

Crossland added two more to make sure last season’s finalists went through.

Results:

CGB Humbertherm 2 Grimsby Borough Academy 4; Immingham Town 3 Nettleham 2; Sleaford Sports Amateurs 4 Ruston Sports 8; Wyberton 3 Horncastle Town 2.
