League Round Up: 17th March

By Lincs League

ESLAFORDE Park, Sleaford was the focus of attention in the Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincolnshire League as it hosted the only game to survive the recent adverse weather.

Home side Sleaford Sports Amateurs crashed 5-1 to Louth Town and had skipper Oliver Sidney sent off.

Skegness Town’s stop-start season continued with their fixture at Nettleham being washed out, while both Supplementary Cup semi-finals were postponed, at Grimsby Borough Academy and Wyberton.

Robin Beecroft helped himself to a hat-trick as Louth closed the gap on their opponents at the foot of the table.

It was a snowy, windy and icy day at Eslaforde Park and both sets of players deserve credit for their commitment.

The groundsman should also take a bow for the condition of the playing surface, which helped to provide an entertaining game.

Louth opened the scoring on 26 minutes when the Sleaford keeper failed to hold onto a free kick and Beecroft followed up to bundle the ball home.

The White Wolves doubled their advantage after half an hour and the home side’s woes were increased when skipper Oliver Sidney received a straight red card for a challenge on Gary Flint.

Before the break Louth added a third.

Sleaford Town’s first team manager Jamie Shaw came off the bench to score a second half consolation, but two further goals from the visitors completed a miserable afternoon for Sports.

As well as Beecroft’s treble Louth’s goals came from Flint and Alex Aldrich.
