Midweek Preview: 21st March

By Lincs League

SKEGNESS TOWN welcome Wyberton to The Vertigo Stadium on Wednesday evening for the first midweek match up of the year in the Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincs League.

The Lilywhites title hopes took a huge hit in their most recent fixture, where a 100+ crowd saw Horncastle Town defeat the reigning champions 3-1 on The Wong.

Ruston Sports capitalised with victory over Wyberton, meaning if they win their remaining 4 fixtures they will become league champions for the first time since the 1988/89 campaign.

As for Skegness, they simply cannot afford to slip up again if they want to stand any chance of retaining their crown. They currently sit 13 points behind the leaders, with 4 games in hand.

As for the match under the spotlight, Wyberton have had a tough run of away games throughout 2018, and will be dissappointed to find themselves sat in 7th place in the league, just one spot behind the seasiders.

However their main motive for the remainder of the season is without doubt their two cup semi final fixtures, and they will be eager to get into winning ways with three points under the floodlights on Wednesday night.

In the reverse fixture back in September, both sides played out a goalless draw at The Causeway. Although this time round it will be a tough task to keep out Skegness, who have scored at least twice in every home game this season. They will also be looking to maintain their 100% home record.

Nevertheless, with the Wyberton players naturally keen to impress with a place in their starting line up on Saturday at stake. The Boston side could easily rediscover their early season form and completely extinguish any title hopes that still survive for their opponents.

Kick off is 19:45 @ The Vertigo Stadium, Skegness (PE25 2EL).
