League Round Up: 6th Jan

By Lincs League

NETTLEHAM missed a golden opportunity to climb to the top of the Balcan Lighting Supplies Lincolnshire when they let a two-goal slip through their fingers at Mulsanne Park.

With the top two, Horncastle Town and Ruston Sports, left kicking their heels due to waterlogged pitches at CGB Humbertherm and AFC Boston respectively, Nettleham went into the game against Brigg Town Development Squad knowing that a win would lift them to the summit.

But, despite racing to a 2-0 lead they allowed the visitors to bounce back and share the spoils, which lifted the Zebras off the foot of the table.

Skegness Town’s unbeaten run in the league came to an end at Immingham Town where a solitary Gary Nimmo goal was enough to secure the three points.

Wyberton now carry the league’s flag into the semi-finals of the Lincolnshire FA Junior Cupfollowing their 5-1 win at Coningsby.

Sleaford Sports Amateurs bowed out after conceding five goals without reply at Lincoln Moorlands Railway.

Immingham Town 1 Skegness Town 0

A solitary goal from last season’s player of the season Gary Nimmo inflicted a first league defeat of the season on defending champions Skegness Town.

It was the third time the seasiders had visited the home of the Pilgrims and the third time they had returned empty-handed.

The Lilywhites now turn their attention to Saturday’s trip to high-flying Ruston Sports, while Immingham prepare for their journey to local rivals Grimsby Borough Academy.

Nettleham 2 Brigg Town Development Squad 2

Nettleham will be kicking themselves for missing a hatful of chances at Mulsanne Park.

They bagged a couple of goals early on through Jack Higginson and Adam Croft. But a number of opportunities to put the game to bed went begging before the visitors pulled a goal back to make the half time score 2-1.

The home side were left to rue those first half misses when Brigg levelled the scores early in the second half.

Scorers for the Zebras were Josh Batty and Callum Cutillo.
